WCST STINGRAYS

Walnut Country Swim Team (WCST) is a family-oriented, parent-organized, non-profit summer league swim team dedicated to helping youth swimmers improve their skills in a fun, enriching atmosphere. Our competition team, the WCST Stingrays, is for swimmers aged 5 to 18.

Our season runs from April through the end of July. We have weekday practices, meets, and social events throughout the season. When possible, we also run optional Spring and Fall Clinics in the pre- and post-seasons to help swimmers maintain their progression.

Our goal is to be recognized as one of the most successful and spirited recreational swim teams in the area. While we do compete in meets with other teams throughout the summer, the level of competition is balanced. Each swimmer is encouraged to improve their own swim times, with opportunities for all swimmers to earn recognition.

Through excellent coaching and family involvement, WCST challenges swimmers to develop their physical skills, personal character and ability to work toward team and individual goals. We also provide a welcoming environment for families to form new friendships and develop a sense of community. This adds to the overall friendliness of our great neighborhood.

Age Groups:

The age groups are as follows: 6 & Under, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, and 15-18. Swimmers are grouped by their age on the age-up date (June 15th of the season they’re registering for) – their age on June 15th determines which age group they will compete in for the whole season.

For example:
Jane will have her 7th birthday on May 31st (before the June 15th age-up date). She will be 7 on the age-up date and will compete in the 7-8 group for the whole season.

John will have his 7th birthday on June 30th. He will be 6 on the age-up date and will compete in the 6 & Under group for the whole season.

Having a season-long “competition age” avoids the problem of “moving the goal posts” for a swimmer mid-season. For example, we wouldn't expect a swimmer in the 7-8 age group all season swimming 25s, who turns 9 one day before the championship meet to swim a 50 in the 9-10 group for the championship.

Social and Fundraising Events:

Social and fundraising events are scheduled throughout the season to help strengthen the team, build team spirit, and enhance summertime friendships. Attendance at social and fundraising events is encouraged but not mandatory. These events are listed on the team calendar.
